At the Conceptual Motion Company in Santa Barbara, California, I work as a Junior Architect/Designer. My company focuses on creating positive changes in the way people live, while creating value for clients and the community in the process. Our projects involve urban repair and adaptive re- use of existing under utilized urban land resources, as well as multi- use commercial projects, and high end residences. Everyday I engage in something different. Whether it is collaborating with fellow employees on a conceptual idea for a project and graphically exploring the possibilities, or if it is putting together construction documents and details for the contractor, I am constantly working in different areas to create projects that impact peoples lives. Currently, I am working on tenant storefront re- designs at La Cumbre Plaza in Santa Barbara. I am also working on a commercial live work unit in downtown Santa Barbara that is going to start construction this year. I feel very fortunate to be working with such motivated and talented people who want to make a difference on how we approach architecture in regards to the environment. While at Parsons, I think it is really important to establish relationships with professors and individuals you admire in the field. Take advantage of the technical skills and design opportunities the classes engage in at Parsons because they are directly applicable to the job you will pursue. All the presentations that I accomplished at Parsons gave me the confidence and ability to take my ideas and creatively present them to clients, co- workers, and city officials. Because of the time and effort Career Services put in to help me, I didn't have to be just another candidate whose resume was sitting at human resources.
