Architectural Design

Architectural design explores the built environment in all of its complex forms. From domestic space to performance space, landscapes to cities, students examine the intersection of social practices and the designed world at multiple scales. And the interdisciplinary training and digital expertise they acquire give them a range of career opportunities in the design world.

Architecture

The urban environment of New York City is a laboratory for the study of architecture at Parsons. The program emphasizes architecture as a material and cultural practice. Its rigorous curriculum integrates courses in studio, history, theory, and technology to translate the everyday into extraordinary works of architectural invention.

Art & Design Studies

Art & Design Studies is the core of the intellectual study of design and art at Parsons. Students rise to meet the challenges of the 21st-century design and art practices, through critical reasoning, creative thinking, and problem solving.

Communication Design

Tomorrow's designers leave Parsons with a breadth of skill, depth of knowledge, and fearlessness in confronting change. In the communication design program, students learn to create visual communication, to understand and utilize information and technology, and to act as socially responsible citizens.

Design & Management

At Parsons, students find a unique opportunity to explore design fields and industries while completing a business program tailored to the needs of the future design manager. Our graduates leap into an integrated world of business and design, ready to manage design that is useful, useable, beautiful - and sustainable.

Design & Technology

Technology is fundamental to the modern designer's ability to reshape society. The design & technology program offers a unique education in art and design that is both conceived and produced using digital technology.

Fashion Design

Since 1906, Parsons has been at the forefront of fashion design. The first program of its kind in the nation, it continues to define the future of American fashion while providing a synthesis of our history and culture.

Fashion Marketing (AAS)

Fashion Marketing investigates the relationship between fashion design and marketing. Students learn the development, promotion, advertising, and retailing skills needed to enter the marketplace and succeed.

Fashion Studies (AAS)

Students in the AAS Fashion Studies program are the next generation of fashion talent. From concept to production and introduction to the market, they learn the process, skill, and language of fashion design.

Fine Arts

In the fine arts program, students examine the real world and imagine countless others. They learn a visual language of color, texture, and form to express their thoughts, observations, and emotions in the most dynamic art center in the world - New York City.

Foundation

Foundation at Parsons is an intensive first year program in which a majority of freshman BFA students enroll. Its unique blend of courses, workshops and programs acclimate students to art and design principles and practices, design technology, critical studies, as well as life in New York City. Students reach their sophomore year thoroughly prepared for study in their chosen major, with a solid footing for problem solving, critical thinking, and social responsibility.

Graphic Design (AAS)

Graphic designers develop the images that give voice to the world around us. Using their raw materials - the ability to think, draw, write, speak, and design - students learn the skills to solve specific visual problems.

History of Decorative Arts & Design

The next generation of design and decorative arts historians, curators, educators, and administrators will get their start at Parsons. The History of Decorative Arts curriculum encompasses a range of media, including ceramics, costume, furniture, glass, graphic design, metalwork, textiles, and works on paper.

Illustration

Illustrator/designers combine personal expression with pictorial representation to convey ideas that range from social and political commentary to storytelling. Through both studio and course work, students learn to incorporate traditional media with digital technology. And with the Internet, newspapers, books, films, multimedia, and advertising in your reach, their work can reach millions.

Integrated Design

The Integrated Design Curriculum (IDC) is an interdisciplinary program that provides broad-based knowledge for design practice. In the IDC, students become a part of a socially conscious community of designers. They learn to problem solve in a changing design world built upon technological innovation, emerging global networks, and information futures.

Interior Design

The oldest course of study of interior design in the United States, Parsons is the place for creative, multifaceted, and future-oriented design. Students gain a deep understanding of design ideas, materials, and technologies, and find their expression in color, texture, light and form.

Interior Design (AAS)

In the oldest interior design program in America, today's students become tomorrow's design leaders. Along the way, Parsons' AAS students acquire the skills they'll need in a multi-faceted field that combines the goals of architecture and decoration.

Lighting Design

This graduate degree program was the first in the field of architectural lighting. Today, it is the only program focused primarily on design and social practice. The MFA curriculum combines strong technical and design training with a rigorous study of the phenomenology, history, and evolving theories of light in social practice.

Photography

Just as the industrial age defined the creative role of the photographer in the last century, the digital age will define the 21st-century photographer. Students prepare to be leaders in the rapidly changing working environment that defines the photographic industry today.

Product Design

New technologies have an undeniable impact on the environments we inhabit. The product design program underscores the role that technical expertise, cultural specificity, digital fluency, ergonomic and psychological responsiveness, and environmental sustainability play in the designer's quest to help us manage and enjoy our lives.
